HVLAX ALUMNAE SHANNON BOYLE SELECTED TO PLAY FOR TEAM USA

Former HVLAX player (2013 HVLAX graduate) Shannon Boyle was selected this weekend to the training team for the 2019 US Women’s U19 National Team.  She was one of 36 girls selected out of 110 invited players that participated in a three-day tryout that concluded last Sunday at US Lacrosse headquarters in Maryland.

Shannon credits HVLAX for building her foundation and love of lacrosse . “Being on HVLAX really jumpstarted my lacrosse career. All my friends wanted to play together so my friend's mom , Kate Morrisroe and my mom decided to coach  our HVLAX  team. It was there that I not only learned the elements of lacrosse and the importance of teamwork, but also how much i really loved the sport. I made relationships and memories that i will cherish forever during my time in HVLAX and I am so grateful for that.”

Kate Morrisroe, Shannon’s head coach during her years playing HVLAX  remembers those days fondly. “Shannon Boyle was always one of the most passionate players on the HVLAX field.  Her natural athleticism and incredible speed initially set her apart from other PAL players, but it was her continued dedication and relentlessness that inevitably lead to her continued success.   Shannon would out hustle girls twice her size to come up with ground balls, which contributed to her star  status!”

Shannon is currently entering her sophomore year as a starting defender for Division 1 Hofstra University.  She was named to the CAA all Rookie teams after a stellar freshman performance.  She led the team with  20 caused turnovers, collected 25 ground balls, three points and two draw controls in her first college campaign.

“I'm super excited to be representing Huntington on the US U19 training team. It was truly such an honor to be chosen from the 110 girls that tried out for the prestigious team, especially because of the high caliber of play and talent that was at the tryout. I couldn't be more excited to see what the future holds for this team”.

Come fall, Shannon will be playing both for Hofstra as well as traveling to Maryland to train with Team USA. There will be one more round of cuts until they eventually narrow down the roster to the final team.

The 2019 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women’s U19 World Championship will be held Aug. 1-10, 2019 in Peterborough, Canada.

Shannon plans to join so many other HVLAX alumni in giving back to the community by helping with HVLAX run clinics throughout the year.

WAY TO REPRESENT, SHANNON! HVLAX AND HUNTINGTON ARE PROUD OF YOU!
